Omar is a Tech enthusiast who always enjoys learning about upcoming trends and gadgets in the industry. Currently he is working on a podcast where fellow tech professionals can share their life experiences and their growth in the industry. When he is not in front of a computer he’s trying to find the best burger in town. Has a strong background in video editing and animation, as well as a degree in Interactive Media Design from Fanshawe College. Meet Omar:

What is your role at TechWPG?

As the UI/UX Graphic Designer, I am in charge of design requests for events. Lately I’ve been re-designing some pages of the website where you can interact with the community and stay updated on the latest events and workshops. Follow us to be sure you don’t miss what we are working on.

What is your vision for TechWPG?

I hope to see TechWPG as a big tech community where you can access resources and grow your knowledge about tech or the industry itself. You have to check it out if you are looking to expand your network, know more about local tech companies, or find your next partner to start one. I wish to hear in a future interview, “We met in a networking event hosted by TechWPG. That’s where all this started”.

What experiences led you to TechWPG?

When I moved to Winnipeg, I wanted to find a local tech community for sharing experiences, learning, and networking. Also, I wanted to help create a strong community where people can hear and learn from the experiences of other entrepreneurs.

What should people know about TechWPG?

TechWPG is constantly bringing tech into focus for Winnipeggers, even if people don’t work in the an industry considered to be tech. So don’t be shy if you are planning to change your career path. As a team we strongly believe in community support. We love pushing ourselves to give the best experience to those in tech community.

What are some activities outside of work that help you take care of your mental health?

For me, jogging is one of the best ways to blow off steam and relax. Hiking and cooking new recipes are also some of my favourite activities to take care of my mental health.

Give a shout out to a local business that you enjoy and why.

Mercadito latino has the best pupusas! It is a no brainer when you want to try some Central American food. If you want to take a sip of a good local beer you must try @barnhammerbrewing for their craft beers.
